Our Counseling Services

When people hear the words counseling or therapy they very often have a negative connotation associated with them. However, people that participate in counseling are everyday people like you and I. Individuals, couples, and families that choose to be counseled do not all have mental issues; Instead, they may just need a non-biased person involved to assist and coach them in healthy decision making.

The counseling process helps the development of insight and increased self-awareness. During counseling, people are able to gain a better understanding of their own behavior and the issues, feelings, and events that motivate them. One of the most helpful benefits of counseling is an overall improvement in health and well being which often translates into increased self-confidence, productivity and a greater sense of vitality and peace of mind. People of any age can grow and profit from the experience of therapy. There is no “wrong time” to begin.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior. CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response. Most people with clearly defined behavioral and emotional concerns tend to reap the benefits of CBT. With CBT, you’ll be able to adjust the thoughts that directly influence your emotions and behavior.

Couples Counseling

There are people who stay in unhappy relationships so long that the resentment builds up and they feel they have no choice but to end the relationship. They don’t voice their unhappiness. They go with the flow hoping something will change and the problems will be instantly solved. Then there are those who “try” with everything they have to make the relationship work before they leave. These people are problem solvers who feel they owe it to the relationship to try to find solutions to the problems before they throw in the towel. We may think we are doing all we can to solve the problems in a relationship; however, the use of a counselor can be of great benefit in teaching us new ways of solving problems and getting our needs met. You can get help before it’s too late.

Family Counseling

Family counseling brings parents, siblings and extended family members such as aunts, uncles, and grandparents into the treatment process. The family system has its own structure and patterns of communication, which may be defined by parenting style, personalities and other influences.

Every individual is, in part, a product of the environment they grew up in. Family plays an important role in our emotional, physical, and spiritual development since each individual in the family system impacts and is impacted by the others. For example, one person’s illness can change the lives and interactions of all the other family members.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a form of counseling in which the client is treated one-on-one with a trained therapist. The idea of individual counseling is to provide an individual with a safe environment in which the person can come to a better understanding of their circumstance. Once there, they can scrutinize different aspects of their life and learn how to construct new and healthier relationships. Individual counseling has helped millions of people to understand, accept and move past their own inner demons.

We provide individual counseling to children, adolescents, and adults. One-on-one counseling is tailored to meet the needs of the clients’ age and specific concerns. Individual counseling is a powerful intervention for anyone experiencing depression, anxiety, loss, or difficulty adjusting to transition and change.

Men’s Issues

While traditionally men have not been the ones to seek out therapy, that doesn’t mean they haven’t had reason to. For example, according to a recent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) survey, the number of men who seek treatment for mental health issues is significantly lower than the number of women with the same mental health concerns.

Women’s Issues

Throughout the ages, women have been called “the fairer sex.” And yet, were you to ask women about their life experiences, many would admit their life events haven’t always seemed so fair.

Women may experience certain environmental, psychological, and biological challenges related to gender that have a significant impact on their mental health and well-being. If not addressed properly, these challenges can turn into burdens that often lead to anxiety, depression, and a lost sense of self.
